Anthony Dowell was born in London, United Kingdom on February 16, 1943. Dowell grew up in the United Kingdom, shortly after starting merging into dance training around 1948, at the age of five. The teacher Dowell was supervised by was June Hampshire, who introduced Dowell with the importance of discipline in the world of ballet by nurturing and proper training. About five years later Dowell was introduced in Sadler’s Wells Ballet school for his further education in London. In 1956, Sadler’s Wells was renamed as Royal Ballet School. In which Dowell kept training for his career in dance. Upon his graduation in 1960, Dowell was offered an opportunity at Covent Garden Opera Ballet, where initially Dowell’s career began after spending a year with a company Dowell was reached to join The Royal Ballet. This is how Dowell began his lifestyle of being in the Royal Ballet career. He was offered such opportunities in life because he has spent a good amount of time mastering the moves of Royal Ballet. His hard work from five years old up to now paid off and Dowell was served with some recognition in his career. This leads us to Dowell’s career journey, what he did and performed that provided such recognition.

As Dowell was representing the Royal Ballet School, the first individual who understood and recognized that Dowell was full of talent and potential for royal ballet, was a Danish dancer Erik Bruhn, a guest at the royal ballet organization. Bruhn showcased some moves from the solo variation in his 1962 pas de six, which motivated the abilities and talent of Dowell and lifted his confidence. Because of his spectacular delivery Dowell was part of several performances like The Dream, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The potential he carried privileged Dowell with the opportunity of being involved in the cast of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet as Benvolio. Later in the time period Dowell played the protagonist roles in acts like The Swan Lake (1987), and The Sleeping Beauty (1995). These were considered one the most famous performances done by Dowell and provided major recognition in the dance world. Anthony Dowell danced from 1986 to 2001. After the retirement Dowell was awarded with Critics’ Circle De Valois Award In 2002 for outstanding achievement in dance as well as the He was awarded lately in 2021 with Benois de la danse lifetime Achievement Award. Overall, Life of Anthony Dowell, is very interesting there several different types of interesting fact about his life that stood out but the major three aspects of his life that catches the eye of the audience are, That Dowell began his training for dance when he was only five years old, in other terms Dowell was well aware of what he wants to be in his life and how much time and effort he needs to spend in order to master the techniques of the art. This means it is never too late or too early to achieve what we want to achieve in our life. This being said that, the second interesting fact about Anthony Dowell’s life and career is that the first teacher or instructor was June Hampshire who made Dowell understand what Ballet career asks from a dancer and in this case the idea of Discipline was enhanced by the instructor of Dowell, but Dowell also perfectly absorbed this rule of thumb in his mindset and obtained success in his career. This is a major lesson for the younger audience is that it does not matter whatever task we perform in our life it should always be performed with discipline because without discipline we will not be able to reach success. Lastly, the third interesting fact about Anthony Dowell’s life and career was that he was honored with several awards which he discovered in the first place. This recognition allows the artist to feel more inclusive and feel proud of what they have accomplished in their lives.
